When a panic attack or anxiety attack sets in, breathing can become erratic, your heart can start beating faster and your thoughts can be all over the place. There are other intruding symptoms as well, and as a matter of fact, anxiety attacks can make people feel so bad that they sometimes report feeling as though they are dying. Panic attacks can be scary, and they can be difficult to deal with when you don’t know what to do.
Panic attacks can come from nowhere it seems, and you might not actually be going through anything really bad when they occur. This next tip may sound a bit odd when you feel like you’re at the mercy of a panic attack. You have to recognize the anxiety attack for what it is and be willing to focus on redirection. The problem is during a panic attack, people try to tell themselves everything is okay, but the physical symptoms don’t immediately subside. This can make you in fact feel like everything is truly not okay. However, you have to persevere and take control of your feelings.
Be stubborn and let that panic attack know that you’re going to focus on positive things. What do you enjoy the most? What is a good memory? What is a goal you have? Focus on positive things and keep telling yourself that everything is okay. The panic attack symptoms will eventually go away. It just takes some time.
Many times, people experience a panic attack and try to get away from whatever situation is causing the panic. The problem with that is dealing with a situation like that can cause the anxiety attack symptoms to worsen. Sometimes people do like to step outside if they are indoors, and this is to get some fresh air. Of course, there are certain breathing exercises you can do to help, too. For example, you can practice diaphragmatic breathing or even hold your breath for a little bit.
You may not feel normal at all of course, but you can still force yourself to act normal. Your body will eventually comply. Again, it may not feel like it, but you’re doing what you need to do in order to get past the panic attack. When learning how to stop anxiety attacks, you often have to do things that you’re not going to think will work at the time.
Exercise can also help, so if you absolutely feel like getting up and moving, get some exercise. Think about what you usually do that is relaxing to you, and there are also natural herbal supplements you can take to help. You’ll get through this anxiety attack, and hopefully you can keep them away.
